Electronic cigarettes are relatively new to the market but have become very popular and widely accepted within a short period of time. Many people, including celebrities, have found them a quality alternative to conventional tobacco cigarettes for reasons of health and finances. E-cigs are sleek and modern, with a sophisticated design; which is one reason the rich and famous have been attracted to them.
E-cigarettes consist of an atomizer, battery (the two of them often combined in one piece), and a cartridge that contains nicotine and flavoring. The atomizer heats the liquid in the cartridge when you inhale the e-cigarette, converting it to the vapor that you end up exhaling. There are many celebrities who use e cigarettes and have substituted them for regular cigarettes in the last few years.
One of the best-known e-cigarette celebrities is Katherine Heigl, who starred in many hit movies and the very popular TV show “Grey’s Anatomy.” In an interview she stated that she started smoking at the age of 25 and now believes she has found a much better substitute: electronic cigarettes. She has been seen flashing her e-cigarette in front of the media and has even used it live on the David Letterman show. She considers e-cigarettes better because the vapor has no tar and known carcinogens, and she likes the different flavors that are available.
Other popular celebrities seen with electronic cigarettes are Leonardo DiCaprio, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. They have all been photographed using e-cigs while out enjoying nightlife, or on the red carpet. Johnny Depp and Charlie Sheen are two A-listers who have been seen enjoying their e-cigs around town as well. Another famous e-cigarette celebrity is Robert Pattinson of “Twilight” fame, who has been seen smoking and promoting electronic cigarettes at many Hollywood parties.
The list goes on and on; Natasha Lyonne is another e-cigarette celebrity famous for her role in American Pie films, who has also been seen using e-cigarettes on TV shows. She switched to e-cigarettes after open heart surgery. Even supermodel Kate Moss, a well-known chain smoker, has been caught using an e-cigarette by the paparazzi.
The electronic cigarette industry is doing all it can to promote the use of its products among celebrities; most of the best-known brands have sponsored various Hollywood events, or included their e-cigarettes in the “goodie bags” that are given to celebrities at awards ceremonies annually. And just like everyday smokers, the rich and famous are often happy to give up their cigarettes for the newer-and-better e-cigs.
