Rhode Island’s governor, Lincoln Chafee, has vetoed a law which would prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes to minors. The proposal, modeled after a similar proposal in Wyoming, would have banned the sale of e-cigarettes to anyone under the age of 18. But Chafee said the law would also have defined ecigs as “vapor products,” effectively stopping the state from enforcing existing tobacco laws and taxation policy on e-cigarettes. Proponents claim that a law is needed to stop those under 18 from using ecigs and becoming addicted to nicotine.
